The weather, currently.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms

Takeaways for Chicago's weather:

1. Wet Start To The Week

2. Temps About Average After Monday

3. Time For A Carwash Tuesday

Scattered showers and thunderstorms early and late on Monday but some dry hours too. It will be the warmest day of the week with highs in the upper 80s but a cold front will drop temperatures late in the day. We slip into the upper 70s for highs Tuesday, back into the middle 80s Wednesday, drop to the upper 70s Thursday and Friday before warming into the lower 80s Saturday. A wind off the lake at times will keep it cooler lakeside. After Monday there should be plenty of sunshine Tuesday through Saturday.

What you need to know, currently.

The Senate passed the Democrats’ climate, health care and tax package Sunday.

The “vote-a-rama” started Saturday night and ended this afternoon. The final vote was 51-50 with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking the tie.

The bill, which is called the Inflation Reduction Act, plans to invest $369 billion into energy and climate change programs, with the goal of reducing carbon emissions by 40% by 2030. This is the largest climate investment in US history.

The bill also includes a plan to lower prescription drug costs, extend the Affordable Care Act program for three years and make the tax code more equitable.

The House is expected to consider it Friday.
